The Tuscaloosa County Preservation Society announces name change

TUSCALOOSA, AL. — The Tuscaloosa County Preservation Society announced today that they have completed a major renaming, officially changing the name of Tuscaloosa County Preservation Society to “Historic Tuscaloosa."

For several years, the board members of Tuscaloosa County Preservation Society (TCPS) have thoughtfully considered ways to keep the organization relevant and contemporary.

Our purpose, “to develop an awareness of the historical and cultural heritage of Tuscaloosa County," continues to remain strong as do our efforts to fulfill our objectives.

In an effort to continue such objectives for future generations, the motion for the name change was carried unanimously. Our logo will remain the same with the exception of the name change.

Many of the cities that have deep historical roots with active organizations that preserve their histories have made such a change. Charleston (Historic Charleston) and Natchez (Historic Natchez) are two such examples.

In addition to the fact that this name was chosen to reflect our role in the community, our website and social media presence already use it.

Since the time of its inception, society has worked diligently to fulfill their objectives to educate and preserve different historical aspects of the community and hope to continue to do so in the coming years as Historic Tuscaloosa.
